Technology partnerships are everywhere- even when it comes to mobility!
This weekend during a quick city break to Palermo, Sicily, I (finally) tried an e-scooter for the first time. First of all, it was a bit of a thrill zooming through the city streets, but I was also excited to see the benefit of an integration partnership in action!
In Palermo, there are so many scooter providers available- Dott, Helbiz, Bird and Lime- why did I end up choosing Lime ?
First of all, I wasn’t planning on bothering with scooters at all- If I had been interested in one of the other companies, I would have needed to download the app, register an account, set up payment, and THEN start a ride. For an application I'm only going to use while traveling, it's not worth the hassle- I'd rather walk.
However, Uber is an app I already use regularly for taxis. Within my regular Uber app, I was able to quickly find a scooter, unlock it and go- it was just as easy (or even more) as getting a cab!
After trying it once, it became my preferred way of getting around town, and I will definitely use it again in other cities. Via their partnership (and a particularly stellar integration), Lime gained a new customer, advocate, and additional revenue over the last couple of days without any additional marketing budget or even the consideration of any competitors. 🌟
I’m also not a Lime loyalist- the sole factor of my choice (rather than price, quality, experience, availability) is the fact that I can access a scooter through an app already on my phone.
Conclusion? A smooth integration flow can make a huge difference in customer acquisition, not to mention experience. Integrations can be a driver and the decision factor for new customers, who may have not even considered using your product at all.
This doesn’t just apply to individual users like me- the ease of integration with critical tools can heavily impact buying decisions all the way up to enterprise software decisions.
